Professor Mieke Faber

Professor Mieke Faber is a Deputy Editor of the journal of Public Health Nutrition. She is a temporary (post-retirement) Chief Specialised Scientist at the South African Medical Research Council, and an extraordinary professor at both North-West University and the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. She is a Deputy Editor of the South African Journal of Clinical Nutrition and a member of the Editorial Board of Maternal and Child Nutrition. She holds a PhD from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.

Her research interests include food-based interventions to improve nutritional status in infants and young children; dietary quality assessment and impact on health; and infant and child feeding and nutritional status.

Dr Vundli Ramokolo

Dr Vundli Ramokolo is an Associate Editor at the Journal of Public Health Nutrition. She is an Epidemiologist working as a Specialist Scientist at the South African Medical Research Council. Dr Ramokolo completed her doctoral studies at the University of Bergen, Norway, and post-doctoral fellowship at Columbia University, New York. Her research interests include (1) the interactions between food security, nutrition, and disease, (2) developmental origins of health and disease, and (3) perinatal Epidemiology. She is an investigator in studies relating to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on food security and maternal and child health; the impact of the Child Support Grant on child nutrition; prevention of mother-to-child-transmission; and pre-exposure prophylaxis in pregnant and postpartum women.

Dr Cindy George

Dr Cindy George is an Associate Editor of the journal of Public Health Nutrition. She is a Senior Scientist at the South African Medical Research Council, a South African National Research Foundation-rated scientist and Africa-Oxford (AfOx) Fellow. She holds a PhD from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. Dr George’s research is centred on chronic kidney disease (CKD) in African populations, focusing on characterizing the burden of CKD and examining the risk factors and underlying mechanisms associated with the disease. She currently managing the CKD-Africa Collaboration, which aims to pool individual participant data (IPD) to, (1) determine the burden of CKD in Africa, (2) create resources that would allow researchers track the burden of CKD and (3) enable CKD projections for Africa.
