During this webinar, Emeritus Professor Michael Gleeson, Loughborough University, author of the evidence-based healthy lifestyle guidebook Eat, Move, Sleep, Repeat, will discuss the benefits of losing excess body fat in order to improve health and fitness and reduce the risk of common chronic diseases. He will first describe the links between overeating, having too much adipose tissue, chronic low-grade inflammation and the development of chronic diseases including type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease. Using evidence from scientific studies he will debunk some of the common myths of dieting, explore which diets work for weight loss and which don’t (or are unhealthy), discuss what is the best type of exercise for fat burning (definitely not high-intensity interval training as claimed in several recent healthy lifestyle books authored by non-scientists) and why a combination of non-extreme dieting and increased physical activity is likely the best option for safe, effective and long-lasting weight loss. He will also describe a personalised weight loss plan incorporating multiple diets and non-exhausting exercise that most people can do.
