Gestational diabetes poses significant health risks for both women and their children, with effects that extend beyond pregnancy. While gestational diabetes often resolves after childbirth, it increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and other chronic health conditions later in life. Recent advancements in behaviour change strategies, as well as improvements in technology and digital healthcare, have opened up new possibilities for diabetes prevention among women with a history of gestational diabetes. Additionally, there is growing recognition of the value of applying implementation science to enhance the effectiveness and scalability of interventions. A comprehensive, person-centered approach, incorporating targeted interventions, technology, and evidence-based methodologies, can help address population needs and improve long-term health outcomes.
