Join Professor Louise Burke as she discusses the effects of a ketogenic low carb high fat (LCHF) diet on the performance of endurance sports in elite and high performance athletes. The webinar will cover various aspects of physiology and the impact of LCHF, including the interplay between high aerobic capacity and good economy (a low oxygen cost to produce a given power output or speed) in high performance athletes. it will also look at muscle capacity for fat oxidation across a range of exercise intensities, and adaptation capabilities and the cost of a switch to greater fat metabolism by the muscles and the impact on exercise economy. Speed and power outputs that underpin success in endurance and ultra-endurance sports will also be considered.
What will I learn?
- Understand the physiology underpinning high performance athletes
- Analyse the impact of low carbohydrate availability and the switch to greater fat metabolism
- Assess the evidence to determine the best scenario for the use of keto diets and strategies for training and race day
