We know as nutritionists that we have a problem whereby diet and lifestyle-related diseases are continuing to grow, despite diet and lifestyle strategies that can reduce risk for many chronic diseases. However, this isn’t happening although strong evidence-based population-level guidelines are in place. In order to know why this is happening we need to ask the questions: do people follow advice? And does the advice work? These questions are particularly important as we all respond differently to diet and lifestyle interventions. This is where personalisation may be part of the answer. We know if we deliver personalised dietary advice, we improve adherence and improve diet quality. We also know if we deliver personalised dietary advice based on biology, we improve efficacy and health outcomes. Unravelling the variability in who we are, what we do and why we make those choices is challenging. Join Dr Sarah Berry, King’s College London and Chief Scientist at ZOE, to discuss all things personalised nutrition and metabolic health. What will I learn?
- Understand the important considerations to deliver high quality personalised nutrition
- Gain insight into the PREDICT studies and whether you can predict metabolic response, and the importance of precision in data collection
- Look at whether we can personalise the microbiome and elicit changes in health.
