This webinar is supported by the British Journal of Nutrition. Peer review can be defined as the process of validation of academic work, to uphold and improve the quality of published research. This webinar aims to provide reviewers, authors and editors with an overview of the peer-review process, an insight into the online editorial management systems that facilitate it, and the pros and cons of different types of peer. It also advises on strategies for approaching peer review as a reviewer, addressing the essential requirements of editors and authors. A brief guide of tools and resources available for peer review is followed by examples of poor practice and explanations for contentious outcomes of editorial decisions and appeals. The webinar aims to provide useful information both for newcomers to the peer-review process, and to experienced practitioners familiar with the vagaries of a process in constant need of improvement.
