Diet is a major modifiable factor in preventing, maintaining and optimising gut health. Chronic constipation has its documented challenges when it comes to diagnosis and assessment in clinical practice, particularly with the symptoms patients believe to be important in diagnosis differing from the diagnostic criteria.
Join Nutrition Society Cuthbertson Medal Winner, Dr Eirini Dimidi, as she focuses on diet and the gut, establishing dietary treatments and tools to improve patient clinical care, and tackling popular nutrition trends.
You will discuss the latest evidence on various dietary management approaches of chronic constipation, derived from large systematic reviews and meta-analyses. In addition, novel digital approaches for delivering dietary advice to irritable bowel syndrome patients will be presented, highlighting the efficacy of personalised mobile applications over traditional leaflets. There will also be the opportunity to examine the potential benefits of fermented foods and plant food diversity on gut health and disease, despite the scarcity of high-quality evidence in these areas.
