Cancer risk, treatment, and survivorship are all impacted by our diet. Following a brief introduction to cancer, including the hallmarks of cancer, you will describe the evidence for the effects of diet (including both foods and nutrients) on the risk of cancer; nutrition and lifestyle recommendations during treatment, and how diet may impact survivorship. During this webinar, a summary of the evidence and findings from recent studies will be presented for each of these three topics, and colorectal cancer will be used as a case study. Potential underlying mechanisms linking diet and cancer will also be presented, as well as the main evidence base for diet and cancer, and the research gaps.
The speakers will then come together to discuss their areas of research, and field your questions during a round table discussion.
What will I gain from this webinar?
- Be able to describe the evidence for diet, and critically discuss the strength of the evidence, in modulating the risk of developing cancer, including potential underlying mechanisms
- Be able to describe the typical dietetic interventions used in oncology settings, and appraise the evidence for simple and multimodal interventions to prevent cachexia
- Understand the limitations of the evidence around nutrition in cancer survivorship, the reasons for this and the challenges of supporting patients following completion of treatment.
