
Professor Jennie MacDiarmid
Professor Jennie Macdiarmid is a Professor of Sustainable Nutrition and Health (Honorary Professor at the University of Aberdeen). She has a BSc (Hons) in Nutrition and Food Science from the University of Surrey and completed her PhD (1997) at the University of Leeds on the Characterisation of High and Low Fat Consumers. She worked for the International Obesity Taskforce for 2 years, then moved into research on policy and nutrition. For the past 15 years Jennie’s research has focused on sustainable diets and nutrition security, which sits at the nexus of nutrition and health, environmental impacts of diets and human behaviour. She published the first paper to integrate dietary needs with reducing the environmental impact of the diet on (Livewell project). To date she has published 88 peer reviewed scientific research papers. For three years (2021-2024), she was the Interdisciplinary Director for Health, Nutrition and Wellbeing at the University of Aberdeen during which time she brought together scientists from a wide diversity of disciplines to develop research to addresses major global challenges.
