A substantial body of evidence demonstrates the short- and long-term positive effects of breakfast consumption on a range of outcomes including: diet quality, macro- and micronutrient intake, weight status, social interaction and development, cognitive function and educational outcomes in school children. However, many school children omit breakfast from the diet.
Join Dr Katie Adolphus as she explains why breakfast is omitted and the reason the impact of this is greater in children and adolescents. Through the evidence you will then look at why breakfast is so important to cognitive function and educational outcomes such as academic performance.
Further to this, you will analyse the evidence-based report on acute intervention studies comparing breakfast, as well as the chronic effects of school breakfast programme interventions on cognitive function and academic performance.
What will I gain from this webinar
- Insight into acute intervention studies comparing breakfast vs. no breakfast
- Understand the effects of breakfast consumption vs no breakfast on attention, executive function, and memory.
- Insight on breakfast consumption frequency via school programmes and its association with academic performance.
